The Coming of Age in America story is very appealing to read. Some of the stories bring back memories of growing up and commiserate with the unfortunate circumstances. The authors tell stories about everyone, as a part of growing up, will encounter the small or large crisis and unexpected experiences throughout their lives. There are stories in the book resonated with me. It reflected on my personal experiences when I came to this country. The struggles I was trying to fit in because my ethnicity differentiates me from the others. People from different cultures can have common experiences. All of us have or will experience difficulties at a certain point in our life. How we cope with most of these difficult experiences are very similar between different cultures. Reading other people stories are a way to look into other lives and to help to understand different kinds of people and different cultures. We see the similarities and differences can help us to understand and accept other people s circumstances. Readers have a better understand ourselves, others, and the world around us. The Jacket by Gary Soto tells a story of a teenager boy who is trying to fit in and be accepted by others. Gary Soto uses the jacket as a symbolic to portray the family situation and the narrator insecurity. Into Africa: Book Review Into Africa by Martin Dugard, is a unique retelling of one of David Livingstone’s last expeditions through Africa. Martin Dugard lives in Orange County, California and is an accomplished writer and adventurer. Martin Dugard accurately provides his readers with an inside look at his characters motivation and inner thoughts. Dugard has also written several other nonfictional history books that showcase his desire to display his characters psychological processing such as Killing Clinton, published in 2012, and Killing Lincoln, published in 2013. His goal was to write a book of this last adventure that would sell enough to en sure a safe retirement. On August 14, 1865, Livingstone set sail for Africa. After two and a half years of travelling, it was apparent that this would be the toughest adventure Livingstone would ever encounter. Livingstone was traveling with some Arab slave traders to Ujiji because his porters had left him and stole his supplies. When the porters returned to Zanzibar, they reported Livingstone dead. When E. D. Young, a Royal Navy gunner that travelled with Livingstone, read the March 7, 1867 Times he was shocked and filled with disbelief, Livingstone was dead. Career Goals As A Nurse Educator Essay Nurse educators play a vital role in the nursing profession and in the preparation of future nurses. As a clinical instructor, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study in the United States for my Master’s degree in the nursing education field for one year. This one-year intensive study has prepared me to do a better job as a nurse educator when I go back to China. The study has enhanced my basic medical knowledge and equipped me with essential skills and technologies to be a nurse educator, and most importantly, I feel I am ready to teach and prepare my future students for the ever-changing and challenging field of nursing with what I have learned here. I have confidence and faith in myself that I will be a good nurse educator. For the sake of doing better work when I go back to China, I set up the one, three, and five year goals as a guide to my career development.One Year Professional Goal StatementsGoals1. By August 1, 20l6, I will have presented two newly published journal articles in the critical care field during two journal club meetings by using a clearly defined presentation template for critiquing research articles. So nurses will have learned a standard way to critique articles from my presentations.2. By August 1, 20l6, I will have organized and coordinated two Journal Club meetings in order to get prepared to be a co-chair of the journal club in the year of 2017 by getting familiar with the steps and agendas of the journal club meetings. I realize now that as a master’s-prepared nurse educator, I have the ability and the obligation to contribute to the growth of the profession, to pursue the continuous quality improvement, to engage in scholarship, to function as a change agent and leader (National League for Nursing, 2012).
